Mr. Bill George

William Henry (Bill) George passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, in the company of his children at MorseLife Memory Care in West Palm Beach, Fla. One more day with us and he would have been 92, but there’s no more need to count the years in his eternal heavenly home.

Bill was raised with four brothers and one sister near the farming community of Johnson Corner, and he graduated from Toombs Central High School in 1948. He was taught to hitch a mule before the age of 10 and got right to work plowing by himself, a pattern of constant industry and achievement that continued through his life.

Following his service in the U.S. Air Force, including duty as part of the Allied occupation of Japan following World War II, Bill returned to Vidalia. That’s where he met and married his beloved wife of 58 years, Nell Windham George, who preceded him to heaven in 2012. They moved to West Palm Beach in 1959 with their two young children so Bill could take a position with AT& T, his employer for 38 years. Half of that time was spent in Florida, but Bill and Nell returned to live in Vidalia once the children were grown and became long-time and busy members of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Bill had a metal toolbox big enough for Paul Bunyan and used everything inside it to complete building and repair projects of every description. He was an humble servant, eager to assist anyone in need and never seeking credit. If you ever found a bag of fresh vegetables hanging outside on the front doorknob, it surely was Bill who gathered the goodies from his garden to share with family and neighbors. Same goes for finding your yard cleared of fallen branches following a windstorm, or discovering the garbage bins had been magically hauled up from the street and put away. These and so many similar blessings were simply in his nature, particularly when it came to people who might have difficulty handling such matters themselves.

He always was whistling, too, on good days and bad, and was a glowing example of Christian love.

Bill is survived by his children, Judy Pait (Michael) of West Palm Beach and David George (Susan) of Wellington, Fla.; his grandchildren, Rebecca Snyder (David) of Grand Blanc, Mich., and Christopher Pait of Greenacres, Fla., and Amanda George (John) of Lutz, Fla., and Anne Fromknecht (Jeffrey) of Wellington, Fla.; and great-grandchildren, Oliver and Eloise Snyder, Beth and Samuel Fromknecht and Jack Lynch; and brother, Kenneth Faircloth (Marilyn) of Rincon, Ga.; plus a larger number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, in the chapel at Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Randy McDuffie officiating. Burial followed in the Pinecrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers were David George, Michael Pait, Christopher Pait, David Snyder, Jeffrey Fromknecht and Robert George, Jr.
