VHS Hosts PTC Classic

The Indians of Vidalia High School hosted their annual Paul Thigpen Christmas Classic basketball tournament last week with three days of games. There were 16 teams from 11 different schools that were scheduled to play at the event. The Lady Indians won one of the three games that they played, but the boys rolled through their three games getting big wins in all.

Girls vs. Pierce

It was a tale of two halves in the game against the Lady Bears for Vidalia. VHS pulled out to a 5-2 lead in the first, but by the end of the quarter the game was tied at 8-8. In the second the Indians pulled away as they outscored Pierce 21-12 to take a 29-20 lead into halftime.

In the third quarter though Pierce came back and took a 40-39 lead. In the fourth the Bears outplayed VHS on the way to a 62-49 victory.

Boys vs. Pierce

Pierce held the lead early, but backto- back three-pointers by Ty Dalley put the Indians on top 11-8. In the third quarter of the game threes by Bryson Whited and Jordan Powell pushed the VHS lead to 40-30.

The Bears did close in on VHS in the fourth, but the Indians held on to take a 63-56 victory.

Girls vs. Long

On Tuesday VHS took on Long County and the Lady Indians got a win over the Blue Tide. VHS was up 5-0 early in this game, but in the second quarter it was just a 13-10 lead for VHS.

In the third quarter the Indians had extended their lead to 36-20, and they went on to win the game 49-38.

Boys vs. Long

Long scored first in this game, but threes by Siricco Jones and Jacaree Washington put VHS up 12-9. The Indians were on top 25-10 in the second quarter of the game and by the end of the half it was 31-12.

VHS kept it up in the third as they led 45-23. VHS took the win over Long 71- 50.

Girls vs. Tattnall

The VHS girls played Tattnall County in their final game of the tournament. Tattnall was on top 9-4 early in the game, and pushed that lead to 15-8. In the second the Warriors led 39-22. It was a 42-22 lead in the third, and Tattnall took the win, 68-50.

Boys vs. Metter

The Indians faced the Tigers in their last game of the tournament. Vidalia had no problems as they ran away with a win. continued from page

The game was tied at

9-9 early in the contest, but in the second quarter VHS had pulled out to a

36-28 lead. In the third it was 47-30. The Indians blew up in the fourth as the pulled away to a 92-

64 win over the Tigers.

This week Vidalia faced off with rival Toombs County in Lyons on Tuesday after presstime, and they will be at Woodville-Tompkins on Friday with tip off of the girl's game at

6:30 p.m.
