Eagles Split Tourney Games

The Montgomery County High School girls basketball team took part in the Paul Thigpen Christmas Classic at Vidalia High School last week. On Monday they faced off with Tattnall County's Warriors, and on Tuesday they played the Bears of Pierce County. MCHS split those games. vs. Tattnall

Against the Warriors, MCHS trailed 7-4 early, but went on a run as their defense didn't allow another point in the first quarter. The Eagles scored 8 more points in the first as they built up a 12-7 lead. In the second quarter the Warriors closed in on that lead, but by the buzzer MCHS was on top 20-19.

In the third quarter of the game the two teams kept pace with each other as MCHS took a 32-30 lead into the final period. The Eagles outscored Tattnall 1712 in the fourth as they won the game 49-42.

MCHS was led by Marley Bell with 24 points and Amire Banks added 9 in the win. vs. Pierce

The Eagles got another big game from Bell as she scored 22 points, but they came up just short, falling in overtime to the Bears of Pierce County. Pierce was on top 12-6 at the end of the first quarter. Pierce added to their lead in the second, and were on top 21-14 heading to halftime.

MCHS made up just a bit in the third quarter of the game, but were trailing 3327 heading to the fourth. In that final quarter the Eagles came storming back and tied the game at 39-39 to force overtime.

In overtime the Bears took the lead and outscored MCHS 10-6 to pick up the win, 49-45.

Bell led MCHS with 22 points, Makyla Bell added 11 points, and Banks scored 7 in the loss.
