Bulldogs Split With Red Raiders

It was a slower week for the Toombs County High School Bulldogs basketball teams as they only played on Saturday when they hosted the Red Raiders of Bacon County. The Lady Bulldogs lost their game, but the boys got the Region win.

The Lady Bulldogs got a big performance by KayKay Mobley as she tried to put the team on her back but they fell short.

TCHS trailed 8-3 at the end of the first period, and the Lady Bulldogs were down 18-9 at the end of the first half.

all in the fourth, but could not overcome as they lost 40- 31.

Mobley led TCHS with 28 points.

Boys vs. Bacon

Bacon had gone on top 4-0, but Brantley Upshaw threw one down over a defender and then added another basket to tie the game at 4-4. With 4:00 minutes on the clock Bacon went back on top, but a three-pointer by Jamie Wardlaw made it 8-7 with Toombs down by just one. Bacon added a three just before the buzzer to lead 11-7 at the end of the first.

With just over six minutes to go in the half TCHS tied the game at 11-11 after buckets from Jesus Quintero and Braylan McMillian. Toombs went ahead with 5:50 left in the half on a shot by Dominic Eason, and were up 15-12 with Upshaw getting one to fall.

Bacon came back and tied the game at 15-15, but Upshaw and Eason both hit shots in the paint as TCHS was on top 1915 as the half was winding down. Bacon added a basket before the buzzer to make the halftime score 19-17 with TCHS on top.

Bacon made a run in the third quarter of the game and took the lead over the Bulldogs. Heading to the fourth the Raiders were leading 3027. But in that fourth period the Bulldogs outscored Bacon 24-14 on their way to a 51-44 win over Bacon.

TCHS was led by Upshaw with 15 points, Maleke Day added 10, Quintero scored 8, and Eason and Wardlaw each posted 7 in the win. The Lady Bulldogs now have a record of 6-9 overall and 2-6 in the Region while the boys are 3-13 and 2-6 in the Region.

This week Toombs was at rival Vidalia on Tuesday after presstime, and they will be back in action on Friday at East Laurens at 6:00 p.m. and then on Saturday at Metter at 6:00 p.m.
