Wheeler Over Toombs

The Wheeler County High School boys basketball team wrapped up their regular season last Tuesday at Toombs County with a win. The boys finished the season as #3 in Region 4A behind Dublin and Dooly County. Wheeler has a record of 11-5 in the Region and were 18-6 overall. vs. Toombs

Wheeler jumped out to a lead in the first quarter. They were on top 7-6 and then went on a run to lead 18-11 at the end of the first. In the second quarter they had pushed their lead to 25-13 over the Toombs Bulldogs. Toombs went on a run late in the half, but Wheeler was on top 35-31 heading to halftime.

In the third quarter the two teams kept pace with Wheeler taking a 51-47 lead to the fourth. In that fourth period the Wheeler Bulldogs were on top 54-49 with seven minutes to play. A threepointer by Toombs closed that lead to 54-52. As time was winding down Wheeler led 62-59, and they went on to win the game 68-61. The boys will play at home on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. against the winner of the Telfair vs. Montgomery County game that is on Tuesday night. If Wheeler wins that game, they will move on to play Dooly County on Friday in Dublin at 5:30 p.m. The Championship will be on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Dublin.
