BPC Wrestling Wins Dual

The No. 19-ranked Brewton-Parker Women’s Wrestling program swept NCAA DII Limestone (S.C.) and No. 8-ranked Cumberlands (Ky.) in Gillis Gym on Wednesday night of last week. The Lady Barons picked up a 25-20 win over Limestone before dropping Cumberlands 24-19. vs. Limestone

Brewton- Par ke r ’s night began with the dual against the Saints from South Carolina. The dual started with BPC picking up forfeits at 101 and 109 to give the Lady Barons a 10-point lead. Limestone gathered five points with a forfeit at 116 to make the score 10-5. At 123, Alesandra Burgos was defeated by Gabriela Ramos Diaz with an 8-0 decision to move the score to 10-8. Brewton-Parker got backto- back wins for eight points at 130 and 136 as Jorie Richardson defeated Caroline Schmitt with an 11-0 tech fall before Leidaly Rivera beat Kathe Wilken-Yoder with a 10-0 tech fall.

During 143, Mika Walters gave Limestone four points with a 13-3 tech fall over Paris Hall, but Hall was able to earn a point for the Lady Barons. Sierra Hartfelder fell to Caitlyn Gilmore at 155 with a 9-3 decision before India Page pinned (1:12) Kalani Rivas in the 170 bout.

The first dual of the night for BPC wrapped up with a forfeit at 191 for Limestone to finish the score at 25-20 for the Lady Barons. vs. Cumberlands

Against the Patriots, BPC forfeited 101 to give UC an early 5-0 lead. At 109, Alyssa Valdivia pinned (2:17) Jaine Stephens to level the score at 5-5. Both teams forfeited 116 before Burgos pinned Dylan Hernandez at 123, giving Brewton-Parker the 10-5 lead.

Rivera picked up another tech fall win for the night against Courtney Pittman at 130. Kamryn Ellis fell at 136 against Allyson Arrington with an 8-2 decision. The Lady Barons got back-to-back wins at 143 and 155. Hall defeated Taylor Whitehurst at 143 with a pin (1:49) while Page followed with a 10-0 tech fall over Hanna Thompson.

During 170, Dymond Guilford pinned Hartfelder in a swift pin (0:10) to give the Patriots five points. The 1191 bout was forfeit by BPC to give UC another five points, but the Lady Barons’ deficit over the Patriots was enough to hold on.
