Mr. Mell Taylor, age 89, of Vidalia, died Thursday, February 17, 2022, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness. He was a lifelong resident of Toombs County, attended Aimwell School, Center School, and was a 1951 graduate of Vidalia High School. He farmed most of his life, in 1980, was elected Chairman of the Toombs County Commission, serving three terms, and was a member of the Association County Commissioners of Georgia. He was a member of Center United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the American Legion Post #313. Preceding his death are his parents, Hugh Taylor and Nina Spell Taylor; and six siblings, Clint Taylor, Robert Taylor, Jack Taylor, Bernard Taylor, Dot Taylor McCullough, Eudine Taylor Palmer, Helen Taylor Cromer. His family includes his wife of sixty-three years, Sue Taylor of Vidalia; three children, Mike Taylor of Vidalia, Suzanne Taylor Adams and husband David of Evans, and Mark Taylor and wife Katherine Frix of Cumming, two grandchildren, Taylor Adams and wife Kaitlyn of Augusta, and Chase Adams of Atlanta; one great-granddaughter, Peyton Adams, a great-grandchild to be born soon, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was Sunday, February 20, at 3:00 p.m. at Center United Methodist Church with Pastor Ron Womack, Charles Taylor and Keith Horne officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Taylor Adams, Chase Adams, Wesley Thomas, Jack Cromer, Charles Taylor, and Tony Perks. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice Foundation, PO Box 2277, Vidalia, GA 30475.
