Lady Barons Host Coastal

The Brewton-Parker College softball team dropped a pair of games against Coastal Georgia on Saturday afternoon at home.
The Lady Barons (3-5) fell, 4-1 in game one and 11-0 in game two against the Mariners (9-0).
Game 1
Brewton-Parker utilized two hits to gather the first score of the game in the bottom of the first inning. Ashley Wilson came home off a single RBI from Abbey Flowers. The Lady Barons were unable to produce anything else, leaving Flowers on base.
After a scoreless second inning, Coastal Georgia was able to answer BPC’s lone run with a score of their own. The Mariners found a runner on base with a triple before a sacrifice fly sent the runner home for the score. In the bottom of the third, Flowers picked up another single, but BPC left two on base. Coastal Georgia added another run on two hits in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. BPC left two on base with a single hit in the bottom of the fourth. Neither team could produce a score despite notching two hits each. Coastal gathered two hits in the top of the six but was held scoreless in the inning by the Lady Barons. BPC struggled in the bottom half of the inning going three and out in the batting order.
The Mariners added two runs on four hits in the top of the seventh to pull away to a 4-1 lead. CG managed to make quick work of BPC, producing three outs swiftly to seal the win.
Coastal Georgia notched 13 hits while Brewton- Parker recorded six. Flowers led the Lady Barons with three hits and one RBI. Flowers also recorded a double in game one. Natalie Hardy pitched for all seven innings, walking one batter, and striking out two on 31 at-bats.
Game 2
The Mariners’ bats really caught fire early in game two, forcing a shortened five-inning contest. Coastal Georgia opened the first inning with a run to lead early. CG added a total of seven runs in the second inning on seven hits. The Lady Barons also gave up an error to the Mariners. Coastal Georgia found its last three runs of the game in the third inning, recording two hits and taking advantage of another error. Brewton-Parker found its first hit of the day off a single from Alexis Bradshaw, but that was all that was mustered together in the inning. Both teams were held scoreless for the final two innings as Coastal Georgia’s 11-run cushion was enough to call the game two innings early. The Mariners notched 10 hits while the Lady Barons only gathered two with Wilson and Bradshaw recorded a hit apiece. Laykin Brown and Alexis Williams pitched for BPC. Brown started for BPC and pitched for three innings, giving 11 runs on nine hits. She also struck out two batters. Williams closed out the game throwing for two innings, recording a hit against her on seven at-bats. The Barons move to 3-5 on the season and will face Columbia (S.C.) on the road this week.
