Mr. Billy J. Colvin, age 88, of Vidalia, passed away on Monday, February 21, 2022, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born on July 23, 1933, to the late William and Annie Colvin. A veteran of the United States Army, he served during the Korean War as military police for the 1st infantry division in G e rma n y. He was a lifelong resident of Vidalia and worked for seven years as lieutenant with the Vidalia Police Department. He then went on to retire from the United States Postal Service after 39 years. He was a member of Calvary on Aimwell where he served as treasurer for over 30 years. He was also a member of The American Legion Post 97, The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, and the Gideons International.
He is preceded in death by both of his parents, and his wife of 58 years, Wynema Colvin.
He is survived by two sons, Michael Colvin and Thomas Colvin (Gwynn) of Vidalia; one daughter, Cherry Weeks of Lyons; four grandchildren, Michael Colvin, Jr. (Edwards), Amanda Galbreath, Christy Bennett (Scott), and Deidre Murphy (Cameron); and eight great-grandchildren.
The family received friends on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m., at Roberts–Stewart Funeral Home. Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of Roberts–Stewart Funeral Home with Pastor Efton Green officiating. Graveside service and interment followed at Pinecrest Cemetery.
