Wheeler County Senior Gabrielle Myrick Accepted at 27 Colleges

Wheeler County senior and salutatorian of her class, Gabrielle Myrick, says she wanted a lot of options when the time came for her to decide where she would go to college. When encouraged to pick her top three schools, she “didn’t know what the top three were,” she says. “I didn’t know where I wanted to go, I decided to apply to several different colleges and then pick from the ones that accepted me.” She applied to 28 schools, and she has been accepted into 27 of those schools, a few of which are Clemson University, Louisiana State University, and Pennsylvania State University. When the scholarship funds that she has been offered are added together, the total is over $500,000. Myrick spent the summer before her senior year developing her list of schools, filling out applications, and writing essays. She had applied to most of the schools on her list before her senior year began. However, one school she did not apply to over the summer was Georgia Tech. “I just felt like there was no way I would get in, so I just didn’t even apply.” Thanks to the encouragement from Wheeler’s high school guidance counselor, Mrs. Lori Adams, Myrick decided to submit an application after all. “I applied the day before [Georgia Tech’s] early enrollment period ended, and I got in! I couldn’t believe it!”

As part of the application process, Myrick had to write why she wished to study her chosen major specifically at Georgia Tech. “Georgia Tech is an illustrious college,” she writes. “The city atmosphere is the aspect that draws me to the high diverse school. Although it’s a college full of engineers, I know that the school will completely meet my expectations in every way possible. Georgia Tech’s 400+ organizations reflect high student participation. I plan to become a part of one of the 13 honors societies and Active Minds. I know that my social skills will thrive at the booming campus, and I know that my future will only be positively impacted with a degree from Georgia Tech.”

Myrick plans to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in hopes of working both in the tech-world and in real estate. Congratulations and best of luck, Gabrielle Myrick.
