Mr. Hembree Samuel “Sam” Elliott, Jr

Mr. Hembree Samuel “Sam” Elliott, Jr., age 81, of Lyons, died Saturday, March 19, 2022, at Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia after a brief illness. Born in Lyons on February 23, 1941, he grew up in Augusta, and was a graduate of Hephzibah High School in Richmond County. He worked as a bus driver for Trailways for several years, worked for thirtyfour years with General Motors Car Hauling Division, later with Trucks, Inc and retired from JNJ Express. He attended Liberty Baptist Church and was a former member of the Masonic lodge in Augusta. Preceding him in death are his parents, Hembree Samuel Elliott, Sr. and Sally Kate Kemp Elliott; 2 sisters, Patricia Elliott Johnson and Linda Elliott Pasqule; and one brother, Richard Calvin Elliott.

Survivors include his wife, Marie F. Elliott; one son, Roderick Hembree Elliott and wife Tina of Cheraw, South Carolina, and Rod’s mother, Judy Elliott of Aiken, South Carolina; 3 stepchildren, Suzanne Shurley and husband Chip of The Rock, GA, April Dodgen and husband Scott of Hampton, and Michael Fannin of Locus Grove; 13 grandchildren, 13 greatgrandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
