Owen Signs With Truett McConnell
Last Monday at Vidalia High School, Indian standout runner Sarah Owen signed her letter of intent to run cross country and track for Truett McConnell in Cleveland, GA. Owen is the VHS school record holder in the 800m, 1,600m, 3,200m, and 4×800m relay along with Georgia Meredith, Kaitlyn Allen, Aidyn Driggers. Owen was the 2021 Region Champion in the 800m, 1,600m, 3,200m, and 4×400m relay.
Owen said, “I chose Truett McConnell because it really has a family type atmosphere, much like Vidalia. The coach is very nice, and it has a really pretty campus as well. I want to thank my parents, all my coaches, and all of my teammates for helping me get to this point.”
Matt Owen (father) stated, “We couldn't be more proud of her with everything that she has accomplished. We just enjoy sitting in the stands and watching her run. I think she is going to accomplish a lot, and just to get to run at the next level is great for her.”
Head Coach Mandy Godbee says Sara’s ceiling is as high as she wants it to be, “Sara is one of the most gifted runners I have ever been around. She is so unselfish and is a great teammate who will do anything when called upon. Truett Mc-Connell has no idea what they are getting. It wouldn’t surprise me if she doesn’t come out of there as one of the best to have ever run there.”
