VHS Track At WACO Relays

The Vidalia High School Indians track & field teams took the top spot in the Carson-Lee WACO Relays Saturday, March 19, in Sandersville. Jahlyn Madison, who won the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and was a member of the winning 4×100 Relay and 4×200 Relay, took the boys’ high point, while Kyleigh Johnson and Sarah Owen tied for the high point award in the girl’s division.

Johnson won the 100 hurdles and the 300 hurdles and was a member of the winning 4×400 Relay and the 4×200 Relay that placed 2nd. Owen won the 800, 3200, and was a member of the winning 4×400 Relay as well as the 4×800 Relay that placed 2nd. The girls finished in 2nd place, 13 points behind host Washington County. The boys scored 113 points in taking the top spot, finishing 54 points ahead of Bleckley County, who finished 2nd.

Both the boys and girls had standout performances and personal best times, including Owen, who ran a personal best 11:52 in the 320o. Also, a member of the winning 4×400 Relay, Owen, along with Moriah Wardlaw, Kyleigh Johnson, and Kaitlyn Allen, put in a personal best for this season. Kyleigh Johnson also had a season personal best in the 300 hurdles with a time of 48.30.

On the boys side, Jahlyn Madison led the way with a personal best in the 300 hurdles, with a time of 41.84, and was on the winning 4×100 team along with Bryce Davis, Tyran Jacobs, and Jordan Powell, running a seasonbest time of 43:93.

Madison joined forces with Tyran Jacobs, Keldon Simms, and Brandon Beasley to win the 4×200 Relay with another season-best time. The boys 4×400 Relay also came in first place with the team of Nahvie Berry, Jack Godbee, Jordan Powell, and Christian Williams. Christian Williams also ran a personal best in the 400 taking the event with a time of 53.6.

Head Coach Mandy Godbee said that watching her team progress every meet is exciting. “At this point in the season, it is exciting to watch the transformation of every athlete when they compete. They are blasting their personal best times and competing very well. We still have work to do to get to the level they need to be, but this is a process, and they are up for the challenge.

Both teams are back in action this Friday at Buck Cravey Field for the Indian Invitational Two, with the meet beginning at 4:00.
