TCHS Drops 3 To Jeff Davis
The Toombs County High School Bulldogs baseball team fell to 5-9-1 on the year and 0-3 in the Region as they dropped a three game series to the Yellow Jackets of Jeff Davis last week.
Game 1
In the first game of the series in Hazlehurst, it was a big first inning for the Yellow Jackets that gave them the win. Jeff Davis scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning helped out by a couple of Bulldog errors. TCHS settled down and didn't allow a run over the next three innings, but they also couldn't get the bats going and score any runs. JD added a run in the fifth inning to take a 6-0 lead over Toombs. The Bulldogs finally got on the board in the top of the sixth inning. Jason Dukes walked, and that was followed by a hit by Wil Watts. Jesus Quintero then walked to load the bases for the Bulldogs. Dawson Brantley walked to bring in a run, and then a fielder's choice by Kodie Cortez scored another run for Toombs to make it 6-2.
TCHS added a run in the top of the seventh inning. Trayvone Harris walked, Brantley Upshaw got a hit and then Dukes walked to again load the bases for Toombs. A wild pitch brought in Harris to close it to 6-3, but that was all Toombs could get as they lost the game by that score.
Game 2
In Lyons on Thursday the Bulldogs again had one bad inning that cost them the game. Jeff Davis took the lead in the top of the second inning with one run, and then added four more in the fourth to push their lead to 5-0. In the bottom of the seventh inning the Bulldogs plated two runs. Hits from Cortez and Harris put two runners on base. Upshaw followed with an RBI single. Dukes walked and then Watts drove in a run to close it to 5-2. But that was all Toombs could muster as they lost the game by that score.
Game 3
Back in Hazlehurst on Friday, the Bulldogs lost the third game of the Region series. Jeff Davis took the lead with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Toombs answered in the top of the third inning with one run. Bryson Stanley picked up a hit and then was driven in by Harris to tie the game at 1-1.
JD went back on top in the fourth inning with one run to make it 2-1, and they added three more in the sixth as they took the win over Toombs, 5-1.
