Indians Host Track Meet
The Vidalia High School Indian Invitational Track Meet was held at Buck Cravey Field on Friday, March 25, and it was a huge day for the Indians and Lady Indians as both teams won the meet. For the Lady Indians team scores are as follows: Vidalia High school 111 points, Washington County 89 points, Bleckley County 53 points. The ladies not only came back from a loss to Washington County last week, they also broke 4 school records and 11 personal best performances. Sarah Owen bested her previous school record in the 3,200 with a time of 11.46.84 and also broke her own record in the 800m with a time of 2:20.75. Hayden Williams opened up her season in a big way breaking the school record in the high jump with a jump of 5 feet 4 inches. The 4×200 is a new event this year so every personal best is also a school record. The winning team of Moriah Wardlaw, Kyleigh Johnson, DaŚhia Ford and Samara Troupe broke their previous record with a time of 1:51.
The boys also placed first with team scores as follows: Vidalia High School 148 points, Washington County 73 points, Coffee County 46 points. The boys accumulated 15 personal best performances with exceptional performances in the 4×100 relay and the 4×200 relay as both teams placed first and had huge personal best times. 4×100 consisted of Jordan Powell, Jahlyn Madison, AJ McClendon and Tyran Jacobs with a time of 43.45. The 4×200 also broke the school record with the team of Brandon Beasley, Jahlyn Madison, Keldon Simms and Tyran Jacobs placed first with a time of 1:32. Coach Mandy Godbee said, “At this point, we are halfway through our regular season. I expected some personal best times, but these athletes went above and beyond my expectations. They are focused and hungry for competition. They have great intensity in practice and have high expectations every time they compete. Coaches Derman Simmons, Lee Humphrey, Erica Palmer and Prentiss Hunt have done an excellent job preparing them for their individual events. Coaches and athletes come together as one team to excel! It is a joy and honor to be a part of it.”
Girls
Sarah Owen was 1st in the 800m with a new school record and was 1st in the 3,200 with a new school record. Kyleigh Johnson was 1st in the 100m hurdles and the 300m hurdles, with Dashia Ford taking second in the 100 and 3rd in the 300. Diamond Cook took 1st in both the shot put and the discus. Hayden Williamson was first in the high jump with a new school record. Moriah Wardlaw was 2nd in the 400m. Kaitlyn Allen was 3rd in the 1,600m run and was 3rd in the 800m. Lyndsey Morris was 3rd in the triple jump. The 4x200m relay team of Moriah Wardlay, Kyleigh Johnson, Daśhia Ford, and Samara Troupe took 1st place. And the 4x400m relay team of Moriah Wardlaw, Kaitlyn Allen, Kyleigh Johnson, and Sarah Owen also took 1st.
Boys
For the boys Brandon Beasley took 1st in the long jump, 2nd in the 200m dash, and 2nd in the triple jump. Jahlyn Madison was 1st in the 300m hurdles and 2nd in the 110m hurdles. Christian Williams earned 1st in the 400m dash and Hunter Manning was 1st in the pole vault. Samara Troupe was 2nd in the 100m dash. Luke Palmer was 2nd in the 1,600m run and was 2nd in the 3,200m. Andrew Hodges was 2nd in the 800m and was 3rd in the 1,600m. Nahvie Berry was 2nd in the 300m hurdles and was 3rd in the 110m hurdles. Jack Godbee was 2nd in the pole vault, Jordan Powell was 2nd in the high jump, Zach Howard was 2nd in the discus, Tyran Jacobs was 3rd in the 200m dash, and Antonio Barron was 3rd in the long jump.
The 4x200m relay team of Brandon Beasley, Jahlyn Madison, Keldon Simms, and Tyran Jacobs finished in 1st place. The 4x400m relay team of Nahvie Berry, Omarion Oglesby, Jordan Powell, and Christian Williams also finished in 1st place.
