Vikings Drop 3 To Trojans
It was a tough week for the Vikings baseball team of Treutlen County High School as they were swept in a Region series by Johnson County.
Game 1
In Soperton on Tuesday the Vikings fell behind early as Johnson posted six runs in the top of the first inning. Treutlen picked up one in the bottom of the second, but another run by the Trojans in the top of the third inning put them on top 7-1. Treutlen scored one in the fifth, but Johnson answered with three more in the sixth. The Vikings added one more in the seventh, but fell to the Trojans, 10-3.
Game 2
On Friday the two teams played a double header in Wrightsville. In the first game of the day the Trojans again struck early with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. They added three more in the third to take a 5-0 lead over Treutlen. The Trojans scored one more run in the fifth inning. The Vikings plated two in the sixth and one in the seventh, but that was all they could get as they fell 6-3. Qamar Jordan and Trace Peeples each drove in one run in the game.
Game 3
The third game of the series was a close one as the Vikings and Johnson pitchers all threw the ball well on the day. Ridge Swain was on the hill for the Vikings, and he went five innings and stuck out six batters, allowing just three hits and two runs.
But those two runs from the Trojans were enough as the Vikings plated just one run in the game in the top of the seventh inning. That came on an RBI hit by Matthew Corbett.
The Trojans took the win, 2-1, to claim the sweep over the Vikings. Treutlen is now 9-10 on the year and are 7-8 in the Region. This week they will play a Region series with Montgomery County. They played the first game on Tuesday in Mt. Vernon after presstime. They will be back in action on Friday for a double header in Soperton with the first game at 4:00 p.m.
