Eagles Open With Win
Montgomery County High School was at Portal last Friday night to kick off their season and came away with a big win over the Panthers. MCHS allowed fewer than 200 yards of total offense by the Panthers while raking up over 300 in a balanced attack through the air and on the ground. The Eagles took the early lead on a 6-yard run by quarterback Bo Davidson in the first quarter of the game. They failed on the extra point, but led 6-0. Later in the first quarter Davidson hit Kristian Boyer on a 16-yard pass to pick up a big first down on a thirdand- 15 play deep in their own territory. That set up a 75yard touchdown pass to Xavier Brantley from Davidson to put MCHS up 12-0.
Portal did find the end zone to close the lead to 12-7.
In the second quarter Davidson rushed for 18 yards setting up another Eagle touchdown from just 1-yard out to make it 19-7.
On their next possession Brandon Denmark got in on the action receiving an 18yard pass from Davidson out to midfield. Cameron Wallace then went for 15 yards, Davidson went for 10 more, and then they capped off the drive on an 18-yard run by Boyer for the score. They added the two-point conversion to made the score at halftime 27-7.
The Eagles added a touchdown in the third and one in the fourth quarter on their way to a 40-15 win over the Panthers.
Davidson had 159 yards passing, and added 49 yards rushing. Wallace had 54 yards on the ground with Boyer adding 47. Brantley led the way receiving with 89 yards and Denmark added 48 yards.
This week the Eagles will be at Treutlen County for a rivalry game with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Friday night.
