The Toombs County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle accident that took the life of a Lyons woman Wednesday night.
Officers were dispatched to the 1100 block area of Georgia Highway 292 at 7:41 p.m. on September 14, where they found Kathy Whitaker, 60, deceased in her wrecked vehicle. Whitaker was traveling west on the roadway when her vehicle exited the pavement and struck a tree. It is uncertain what caused her to deviate from the highway, and the incident continues to be investigated by the Georgia State Patrol Post 18-Reidsville.
Whitaker is not native to the area, but lived in Montgomery County from 1981-1994, and has resided in Lyons since 1999. She is survived by her two daughters, Christy Whitaker Tindal (Brian) and Brittany Lynn Whitaker; four grandchildren, Georgia Whitaker, Brayden Tindal, Jeremy Whitaker, and Aubree Tindal; a former husband, Tim Whitaker; one aunt and numerous cousins.
Her memorial service was held Monday, September 19, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home.
