Head-on Collision Claims Two Lives

A head-on collision on Saturday morning claimed the lives of two drivers on Old River Road.

The Toombs County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a representative from Life360, a popular smartphone app used for families and friends to track each other’s location and driving, at 8:08 a.m. on Saturday, October 1. The representative told the dispatcher that the app had detected a crash through the GPS monitoring feature, and that the owner of the phone had not answered any of the representative’s phone calls to check on the situation.

The information given by the app representative led officers to an area of Old River Road near Lewis Nail Road, where two cars had been involved in a head-on collision. Upon responding to the situation, officers found drivers Caitlyn Emily Banks, 17, and Gail Gaines Meyer, 70, deceased. These responders completed a preliminary investigation, which concluded that Banks had been traveling east and Meyer was traveling west when Meyer possibly crossed into the eastbound lane and struck Bank’s vehicle. Further investigation has been turned over to the Georgia State Patrol Post 18—Reidsville.
