Wheeler Falls In Region Tournament
The season came to an end for the Wheeler County High School basketball team as part of the Region Tournament last week. The Lady Bulldogs faced off with the Lady Trojans of Telfair County, and the boys took on the Vikings of Treutlen County. Both teams fell in their games.
Girls
In the girls game against Telfair, the Trojans jumped out to an early lead, but Wheeler held with them in the first quarter. Telfair was on top 23-17 by the end of the first. But in the second the Trojans began to pull away from the Bulldogs. Telfair pushed their lead to 46-28 by the end of the first half.
The second half was all Telfair as Wheeler managed just four more points over the final two quarters. The Trojans were on top 66-32 at the end of the third, and took the win, 77-32.
Leading the way for Wheeler was Nikita James with 14 points, and Shiann Carey added 11. They ended the season with a record of 2-20 overall, and 208 in the Region.
Boys
The boys took on the rival Vikings and fell to end their season. Wheeler couldln't find the mark on offense as they were outscored 75-35 by Treutlen. The loss ended their season with a record of 4-17 overall, and 0-10 in Region play.
