Smith Speaks at Four Rivers Chapter
The Four Rivers Patriots Chapter Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution held its monthly meeting on Thursday night, May 18, 2023, at the Chatters Restaurant in Lyons. With President George King presiding, there were 14 in attendance.
Compatriot Dess Smith III of the Wiregrass Chapter in Swainsboro is the East Fall Line Region Vice President and is a dual member of the Four Rivers Patriots Chapter. He presented his program on the Battle at Cowpens, an American Revolutionary War Battle that was held on January 17, 1781, just north of present-day Spartanburg, SC. The Battle lasted just a little over 30 minutes and was a complete victory for the American Patriots over the British Regulars. General Daniel Morgan and his 1,800 Continentals and Militia captured over 800 British Regulars and sent Col. Banastre Tarleton running for his life. Many have said that this victory was a turning point in the American victory at Yorktown.
President George inducted new members Joel Keener and William Sanders into the Four Rivers Patriots Chapter.'
