Wheeler County High School Celebrates First Month of American and World Literature Class

Mrs. Jennifer Greene-Sullivan’s students are blessed to be taught by a published author. By night, she writes children’s books, but by day she runs a tight ship in her American and World Literature classes.

In their first month of study, students read Native American Myths and analyzed archetypal characters and archetypal symbols. In addition, juniors have used primary historical documents to better understand historical events that inspired early American writers. In Unit One, students created an argumentative essay on various topics, and they utilized WRITABLE inside their online books. WRITABLE allowed students to peer review and self-assess using their Essay One Rubric.

Tenth grade students began the semester reading nonfiction and fiction short stories. They learned about different cultures from around the world, including India, Egypt, and Russia. Greene-Sullivan's sophomores also wrote an argumentative essay by choosing topics, such as: ways to overcome obesity, effects of social media, and preparations for college and careers.
