TCHS Volleyball Ends Regular Season

The Toombs County High School Bulldogs volleyball team had three matches last week. On Monday they faced off with Savannah Arts, on Tuesday they faced Bryan County and Burke County, and then on Thursday they played Jenkins County and Long County. The Net Dawgs are currently 14-7 on the year and are 4-3 in the Area, sitting in third place. vs. Savannah

On Monday, Toombs County volleyball faced a challenging opponent as the region’s #1 team, Savannah Arts, came to town. The evening presented varied results for the Junior Varsity (JV) and Varsity teams.

JV

The JV squad emerged triumphant, securing a victory in two sets (25-19 and 25-18). This victory marked their seventh consecutive win, an impressive achievement. Standout performances were delivered by Emma Wright with 11 service points, 4 aces, and 4 assists. Elida Cruz and Gracie Davila made significant contributions too, with Cruz achieving 10 service points and 2 aces and Davila contributing 6 service points. At the net, Nevaeh Fletcher demonstrated prowess with 6 kills, supported by Abby White and Alivia Patrick with 2 and 1 kills respectively. The JV team, currently boasting a 7-2 record, is gearing up for their next face-off against Jenkins this Thursday.

Varsity

However, the Varsity team faced a more formidable challenge. Savannah Arts showcased their topranking prowess, besting the Lady NetDawgs with set scores of 13-25, 10-25, and 9-25.

Despite the scores, there were noteworthy performances from Toombs’ players. Anna Patrick demonstrated resilience at the net with 4 kills, while Arianna Hill shone with 5 service points and 2 kills. McKenzie Kilgore added 2 blocks, and both Makayla Brewton and Scarlett Stanley contributed with 7 digs each. The Varsity squad is setting their sights on their Tuesday matches against Bryan County, hopeful for a turnaround. vs. Burke

On Tuesday, the Lady NetDawgs journeyed to Bryan County, facing off against both Burke County and Bryan County teams. The initial match against Burke ended in defeat with scores of 25-22 and 25-15. However, the team rallied and secured a victory against Bryan, recording scores of 25-22, 28-30, and a decisive 15-6.

In the Burke contest, Makayla Brewton showcased her skills with 6 Service points, complemented by 2 aces and 2 kills. Emma Wright chimed in with 6 service points and an ace, while Arianna Hill and McKenzie Kilgore added 5 and 3 kills, respectively. Martasia Burton also made her mark, contributing 8 assists. vs. Bryan

The Bryan match spotlighted Arianna Hill and Anna Patrick, who both ignited in the third set. Arianna’s exceptional service resulted in 9 consecutive points, inclusive of 2 aces, and duringthe same time, Patrick exhibited her prowess at the net, recording 7 kills. She concluded the martch with an impressive 16 kills, while Hill tallied 14 service points and 3 aces. Brewton contributed 10 kills, Hill added another 6 kills, and the duo of Burton and Anabel Cruz provided 14 and 15 assists, respectively. Although it wasn’t their most consistent performance, the Lady Net-Dawgs demonstrated resilience. The squad looks ahead to their next match at Jenkins HS in Savannah, followed by the much-anticipated Area Tournament. Their current standing is an overall 12-7 record, with a regional score of 4-3.

vs. Jenkins JV

The Lady Netdawgs JV team showcased their dominance by extending their win streak to eight matches after defeating Jenkins HS with set scores of 25-6 and 25-20, rounding off the season with an 8-2 record. The standout performances during the match came from Maggie Rodriguez and Nevaeh Fletcher, both leading from the service line. Rodriguez served up 11 points, including 4 aces, while Fletcher contributed 9 service points, 5 aces, and 3 assists. Alivia Patrick also put in a strong showing with 3 kills.

Varsity

On the varsity front, Toombs County sealed victories against both Jenkins (set scores of 25-14 and 25-19) and Long County (25-20 and 2514). The Jenkins match saw remarkable performances by Anabel Cruz and Scarlett Stanley. Cruz had a tally of 12 service points, supplemented by 6 aces and 6 assists, while Stanley contributed 7 service points, 3 aces, an assist, and a dig. Notable mentions also go to Makayla Brewton and Anna Patrick for their impressive kills. vs. Long

The match against Long County was marked by Cruz’s leadership, boasting 11 service points, 3 aces, 7 assists, and 4 digs. Madison Brown’s service game was also commendable, as all 5 of her service points were aces. Anna Patrick topped the team’s stats with 6 kills.

The Varsity squad ended the season with a 14-7 overall record and 4-3 in area play. The Area Tournament for Toombs will commence this Thursday, with the team waiting to face the victor of the Tuesday clash between Tattnall and Vidalia. A win would mean a crucial match on Saturday in Savannah.
