BPC Volleyball Plays Clark

The Brewton-Parker College Women’s Volleyball hosted NCAA Division II and cross-state opponent Clark Atlanta (Ga.) on Tuesday night for some non-conference action. The Lady Barons (4-13) slipped away to the Panthers (15-8) in four sets after opening up with a winning first set.
“We had better energy tonight than what we put out this past weekend,” Coach Obed Quiles mentioned. “Offensively we played better tonight compared to the previous five matches.”
“Our serves were aggressive and placed Clark Atlanta out of system,” Quiles added. “Hopefully, we can carry this energy into the weekend as we return to conference play.”
Bre w t o n – Pa r k e r opened with an early 5-3 lead in the first set before Clark Atlanta responded with an 8-1 run, moving to an 11-6 lead over the Lady Barons. After back-to-back errors from the visitors, BPC managed to battle its way back into the set with kills from Kinsley Jordan, Amme Mobley, and Jalisia Famber. A service ace from Jelisa Alexander leveled the set 13-13.
The Lady Barons eventually went on to control the set with three straight errors from CAU followed by a kill and an ace from Mobley. Brewton- Parker closed out the set with a 5-3 run to secure a 26-24 win.
Clark Atlanta began the second set with a 9-4 lead and held control for the remainder of the frame. The Lady Barons found a way to get within two points late in the set but ultimately fell in a 25-21 loss as the Panthers tied the match.
BPC led CAU early with a 3-0 start to set three, but the Panthers went on a 14-4 run to secure control of the set 14-7. Clark Atlanta cruised to a 25-19 third set for a 2-1 lead in the match.
Both sides were in a tight battle to open the fourth set as the Lady Barons managed to pull their deficit to just one point early. The Panthers fought hard to slip away from BPC, leading 14-7. Brewton-Parker responded late with a 4-0 run capped by a kill from Famber to move to a 1712 deficit. BPC eventually slid in a 25-20 loss to CAU to drop the match.
Clark Atlanta produced a 65-52 lead in points and led 50-37 in kills with a .210 attacking percentage. The Lady Barons led 9-6 in aces with Alexander leading with a matchhigh six aces and 28 assists. Mobley recorded 13 kills with a .429 attacking percentage and finished with five blocks on the defensive side of the ball. R’eyahn Shaffer finished with a matchhigh 16 digs.
