Thursday Morning Crash Closes 280

A collision between a Honda Civic and Chevrolet Spark 2LT left a portion of GA HWY 280 closed Thursday morning, as the Georgia State Patrol worked to investigate the crash.

According to the Georgia State Patrol’s investigation, the collision, which occurred at the intersection of GA HWY 280 and Ezra Taylor Road in Vidalia, was caused by one driver failing to yield. Patricia Setyanti, 34, of Hazlehurst, was driving the Honda Civic and was stopped at the intersection’s stop sign prior to the wreck. Meanwhile, Wesley Toole, 36, of Lyons, was traveling eastbound on GA HWY 280.

Setyanti said she looked both ways along GA HWY 280, but never saw Toole; yet, as she began turning left onto the highway, she entered Toole’s path striking the vehicle on its left side with the Civic’s front end. After impact, Setyanti’s vehicle continue to travel northeast across the highway for approximately 60 feet before coming to a final uncontrolled rest, which partially blocked the central turn lane and the westbound travel lane of GA HWY 280. Toole’s car rotated approximately 90 degrees counterclockwise and came to a final uncontrolled rest across both of the highway’s eastbound travel lanes.

Setyanti was trapped in the vehicle, and was taken to Memorial Health Meadows Hospital for medical evaluation and treatment after extrication. Toole sustained minor injuries.

Both parties received citations, as Setyanti was ticketed for failure to stop at a stop sign and Toole was ticketed for a seatbelt violation.
