Lady Barons At Red Lady Open

Brewton-Parker Women’s Wrestling traveled to Montgomery, Ala., to take on the Red Lady Open hosted by NCAA DIII Huntingdon (Ala.) on Sunday.
The day was highlighted by a first-place finish from Jorie Richardson in the 136-pound division with a clean 3-0 record on the day. Richardson started with a 12-0 tech fall over St. Andrews (N.C.) in the quarterfinal opening round. In the semifinals, Richardson gathered a win by a 5:35 fall over Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.), before finishing the day with a fall in 1:50 to secure the open 136 title.
At the 109-weight class, Elora Waterman gathered a 10-0 tech fall in the quarterfinals, before dropping the semifinal match in a 3:00 minute fall. Waterman bounced back to take a 20-8 tech fall over Emory & Henry (Va.) in the next match. In the thirdplace match, Waterman gathered a forfeit win to take third place.
Also, at 109, Tashayla West picked up a fourthplace finish, taking the first match with a 1:09 pin. West dropped the second match in a 5:04 fall to Huntingdon, before coming back to take a 10-0 tech fall over Emory & Henry to make it to the third-place match. West ended the day by forfeiting the last match to finish fourth overall.
Jaelynn Sunseri also competed in the 109-pound division. Sunseri fell in a 14-4 tech fall in round one to Huntingdon but was able to pick up a 2:38 fall against St. Andrews in the second match. Sunseri dropped the third match to Emory & Henry in a 2:21 fall before closing the day with an injury default over Allen (S.C.) to secure seventh.
Tatiana Garcia produced a third-place finish in the 116-pound weight class. Garcia started the day off with an 11-0 tech fall over Huntingdon, before having to injury default out of the second match. Garcia fell in 55 seconds in the last match of the day to Emory & Henry.
Kathleen Fisher took home a third-place finish in the 130-weight class. Fisher dropped the first match of the day in a 12-2 tech fall against St. Andrews, before picking up a 4-1 decision win against Huntingdon. Fisher ended the day producing a 43-second fall over Lincoln Memorial.
BPC Women’s Wrestling will be back in action in Bristol, Tenn., on Jan. 14 to take on the Tornado Open hosted by King University.
