Wheeler Boys Split Games
The Wheeler County High School Bulldogs basketball teams took on East Laurens and Wilcox County to finish off the regular season last week. The girls lost both of their games to end their season. The boys split their games and will move on to the Region Tournament this week.
Girls vs. E. Laurens
East laurens did a good job of holding Nikata James to under 10 points as they took an easy win over the Lady Bulldogs. Laurens took the win, 61-29, over Wheeler.
Shiann Carey led Wheeler with 12 points, and James scored 9 in the loss.
Boys vs. E. Laurens
The boys also fell to the Falcons. The Falcons were in front 18-9 in the first quarter, but in the second Wheeler played well and closed the lead to 32-25 at the end of the first half.
In the third, the Falcons extended their lead to 52-38, and they went on to win the game 7656.
Girls vs. Wilcox
Wilcox took the early lead and were up 20-14 at the end of the first. Wheeler could not get anything to fall in the second quarter as the Lady Patriots pushed the lead to 37-16.
In the third, Wheeler got a few shots to fall, but Wilcox was on top 47-28 heading to the fourth. Wilcox took the win over Wheeler, 57-30.
Boys vs. Wilcox
The Bulldogs took the win over the Patriots. They trailed at the end of the first, 17-16, but they came back in the second to take the lead, 32-29.
In the third, it was all Wheeler as they pushed their lead to 47-38. Wheeler took the win, 58-50, over Wilcox.
The Lady Bulldogs finished the year with a record of 2-19, and were 2-8 in the Region. The boys were 15-6 on the year, and were 7-3 in the Region. This week the boys will play in the Region Tournament at home. They will play on Friday night at 8:30 p.m. against an opponent that has yet to be determined.
