The bottom-line question is whether our nation can survive the divisions that we see today. Too many people want to blame it all on Trump. How much blame can be put on Trump for the riots, looting and, as Axios estimated, the close to $2 billion in losses from property destruction? What about the murder and shooting of civilians and law enforcement officers? What about the tearing down of monuments, not only those of Confederate generals but of Abraham Lincoln, Christopher Columbus, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington and abolitionist Frederick Douglass?

'Donald Trump fails to condemn White supremacy, doesn’t believe that systemic racism is a problem, and won’t say that black lives matter,' Biden said at a campaign stop in Georgia this week.

To leave no room for doubt, the Trump campaign hit back, creating a five-minute ad that compiles all the times the president has publicly denounced white supremacy.

'Joe Biden has never condemned the KKK but did praise a former KKK Exalted Cyclops as his 'mentor,' the ad description reads.

The Trump campaign has also made a point of highlighting Biden’s “history of racist comments” in a series of campaign ads directed toward the black community. One ad in particular uses the former vice president’s own words during his decades-long career as a politician.

Trump may be unique because he had no prior political experience, but Joe Biden exists on the other side of the spectrum. He’s been in politics for much longer than anyone who has successfully run for the presidency. For most Americans, the terms “politics” and “corruption” could be synonyms, and the relationship between “time in politics” set against “level of corruption” has an almost invariably and positively increasing correlation.

Trump knows this, and what’s more, as a political outsider, he’s in a comfortable position to expose the corruption that we all know exists among the long-time swamp creatures in Washington. As he pointed out, if Joe had the wherewithal to do any of the things he’s now promising, why didn’t he do them for the many decades when he was in office?
