The Vidalia High School basketball teams took part in the GHSA State AA Playoffs last week. The Lady Indians dropped their first round game to Spencer out of Columbus. The boys won their first round game over Rutland, but then faced the #1 team in the state, Westside of Augusta, in the second round and were defeated.

Girls vs. Spencer

The Lady Indians kept it close in the first quarter of the game as they were down by just two at the buzzer. VHS trailed 23-21 heading to the second, but then the wheels came off. They scored just six points in the second quarter as the Greenwave of Spencer pulled away to a 44-27 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Indians kept pace, but were still down 58-41 going to the fourth. Spencer went on to win the game 72-56 over VHS.

VHS was led by Hannah Nichols with 19 points, and Tymber Harris and Cristal Franklin each scored 10 points in the loss.

The loss ended the Lady Indians' season with an overall record of 1315.

Boys vs. Rutland The VHS boys took on the Hurricanes of Rutland on Wednesday at home. VHS was out in front 6-4 early in the game. Jacaree Washington hit a basket and then a three-pointer as VHS built up a 13-4 lead by the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter with 4:15 left in the first half, the Indians led 17-7 over the Hurricanes. It was 21-7 after a pair of free throws by Cori Mincey, and then Mincey slammed one down to give VHS a 23-10 lead with 1:35 left in the first half. The score at the end of the half was 23-14 with the Indians out in front.

In the third, VHS pushed their lead to 3616 as they went on a run to break the game open. It was 41-19 with 2:30 left in the third quarter. Washington added a basket, as did Jayon Coleman and DJ Wallace. By the end of the third the score was 48-21.

In the fourth quarter, the Indians extended the lead to 55-25, and the Indians went on to win the game 71-32.

Washington led the way with 15 points, Mincey added 13, Wallace scored 11, and Rashad Brown posted 9 in the win. During

Boys vs. Westside

It was a tough matchup for the Indians in the second round as they drew the #1 team in the State, the Patriots of Westside of Augusta. Westside won their first round matchup 98-25 over Cook County.

Vidalia played a hard game, but was outmatched by the Patriots, losing the game by 30 points. The final score was 67-37 with Westside taking the win. VHS trailed in the game 38-18 by the end of the first half and Westside took the win over the Indians.

VHS finished the season with an overall record of 20-9.
