TCHS Soccer Wins 1st Round
The Toombs County High School soccer teams both won their first round games in the GHSA State AA Playoffs last week. The Lady Bulldogs took on the Lady Hurricanes of Rutland High in Macon, while the boys hosted the Cherokees of Kendrick High.
Girls
In the girls contest, the Lady Bulldogs got two big goals from Emerson Powell on the way to a 2-0 win over Rutland. Emma Wright and Maritza Zamorano each had an assist in the game. In goal Laura Zamorano picked up six saves on the way to the 2-0 win for Toombs.
Boys
The Bulldogs had no problems with the Cherokees on Friday night at home in The Pit. Toombs put nine goals on the board in the first half of the game and one in the second half to win the game by the mercy rule.
Yovanny Zamorano, Angel Morales, and Osvaldo Tinoco each scored two goals for Toombs. Juan Luna, Augustin Cruz, Daniel Santoyo, and Alejandro Tinoco each found the net one time. Santoyo also added two assists. Axcel Barbosa, Omar Andres, Osvaldo Tinoco, and Miguel Granados each picked up one assist in the game. TCHS goaltender Augustin Cruz didn't allow any goals as Toombs won the game 10-0.
This week the Lady Bulldogs will be back on the road as they travel to take on the Purple Hurricanes of Fitzgerald on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. The boys will host the Rebels of Berrien on Friday night at 6:00 p.m.
