The Vidalia High School girls and boys tennis teams attended the Georgia Southern Tennis camp in Statesboro recently hosted by GSU’s Girls’ Head Tennis Coach, Sean McCaffrey, and his graduate assistants Sonja Keranen, from Helsinki, Finland, and Jana Weiss, from Klagenfurt, Austria.

The GSU camp included conditioning, stroke development, strategy, and competitions. VHS coach Wade McLeod said, “It was a fantastic experience. Our athletes received individual instruction from the head and assistant coaches throughout the camp.”

Coach McLeod was a little concerned on day one, when he witnessed the players go through the morning conditioning. Coach McCaffrey said that the participants were doing the same drills and conditioning that he puts his college team through. McCaffrey smiled and added, “But the college players do everything longer!”

Coach McLeod added, “After the conditioning session, there wasn’t a player on the court that wasn’t drenched in sweat. A few girls gave me that look that said 'What in the world did you get us into!!???' I am so proud of these athletes working through this adversity and coming back for more each day. Each player said the camp was tough but will definitely help us become a better team.”
