VRD 12u Boys Win District
The Vidalia Recreation Department's 12u boys All-Star team played in the District 1 Tournament last week in Vidalia, and came away as the District Champions. The boys won four straight games to claim the title. vs. Emanuel County
The first game of the tournament for VRD was against Emanuel County. VRD took the early lead with two runs in the top of the second inning, and then added a run in the third and one more in the fourth as they took a 4-0 lead.
Emanuel picked up a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, but VRD answered in the top of the fifth with three more runs to extend their lead to 7-1. Emanuel plated two runs in the bottom of the frame to close the lead to 7-3.
In the sixth inning, Vidalia scored one more run, and then held Emanuel to just one in the bottom of the final inning to take the win, 8-4. vs. Effingham County
Up next for VRD was Effingham County. It was a onesided game with Vidalia cruising to a win. VRD scored a run in the first inning, but then broke the game open with eight more runs in the second inning. Vidalia plated four more in the third and one in the continued from page
fourth on the way to a 14-0 win over Effingham.
vs. Bulloch County
In the semifinals of the winners' bracket, Vidalia again rolled to an easy win as they defeated Bolloch County.
Vidalia took the early lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning, and then they added three more in the third as they held a 4-0 lead.
VRD came out in the fourth inning and plated six more runs to take a 10-0 lead. They held in the top of the fifth inning to win the game by the run rule, 10-0. vs. Emanuel County Championship That put the local boys into the Championship Game for a rematch with Emanuel County. This was a close game, but Vidalia came out on top to claim the title in walk-off fashion.
Emanuel County went on top in the top of the first inning as they scored two runs. They added two more in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead over Vidalia.
In the fifth inning, Vidalia finally got on the board with a pair of runs to close the lead to 4-2. The VRD defense held in the top of the sixth inning. In the bottom of that final inning a two-run double from VRD tied the game at 4-4, and then an error on Emanuel County brought the winning run across for Vidalia, as they took the game, 5-4.
This week the VRD boys are in Bulloch County for the GRPA State Tournament. They kicked off the tourney with their first game on Tuesday of this week at 5:00 p.m. against Summerville, the District 5 Champion. If VRD makes it to the Championship, it will be this Friday at 11:00 a.m.
