Brewton-Parker College Track & Field Coach Stephen Roberts has finished his first season with the program and has already been able to bring a wealth of knowledge to Mount Vernon.
Roberts can now add a two-time Olympic Qualifier to his tree of coaching experience, as his son Daniel Roberts has earned a place on the 2024 Paris Olympics heat sheet in the 110m hurdles. Although Daniel Roberts is not a student at BPC, he is set to represent the USA in Paris next week after finishing the U.S. Olympic Team Trials with a time of 12.96s in the 110m hurdles.
“I am super proud of my son for all that he has accomplished so far in his career, but most importantly I am proud of his faith in our Lord Jesus Christ,” said Coach Roberts. “He continues to do amazing things and I believe we can learn from his faith and dedication to his craft.”
This will be the second time Roberts has qualified for the Olympic Games, continued from page
competing in the 2020 Tokyo Games with a ninth-place finish in the 110m hurdles. Roberts is a two-time National Champion and a threetime World Championship participant with a bronze medal in the 110m hurdles in 2023. According to the official Olympics schedule, the first round of the 110m hurdles is set for Aug. 4 at the Stade de France in Paris.
As for Coach Roberts, he continues to help the Barons shine in the conference ranks and on the national stage. Last season, he was part of a coaching staff that produced a pair of NAIA Outdoor National Qualifiers, four SSAC Champions, and 20 All-SSAC selections.
BPC Track and Field is looking to bolster the 2024-25 roster and is ready for the next wave of Barons to push the program forward.
