Christian actor, screen writer, speaker, and musician Masey McLain will be reminding women of their divine purpose during a fall women’s ministry event at the First Baptist Church of Vidalia at 6:30 p.m. on September 19. McLain is best known for her roles as Rachel Joy Scott in the 2016 film “I’m Not Ashamed,” and as Ashley Baxter in the 2024 Karen Kingsbury hit, “The Baxters.” She will be delivering a message, which she calls, “What Does God Say You Are? Embracing our Divine Design as Women of the Word.”
“Now, more than ever, there is an urgency to share the truth related to why God created women and how we, as women of the Word, are called to live out our lives as followers of Christ,” Event coordinator Candi Newton emphasized. “We have hopes that on September 19, our local women’s ministries will bring women of all ages, from youth and beyond, to join us for a night of fellowship, worship, truth, and prayer.”
This is not McLain’s first experience with Vidalia, as she has deep familial ties to the area. Her grandparents, William and Jackie McLain, are from the city, and her father Marty McLain was raised in the very church where she will be speaking.
This event comes as a part of the First Baptist Church of Vidalia Women’s Ministry annual series, which focuses on connecting women with the truth of their biblical design, and is another milestone in the church’s 150th year of existence.
According to Newton, over 150 women have already claimed their spots for the event, so anyone interested in attending is encouraged to sign up soon. All women are welcome to register for the event, which costs $10 per person. There is no age restriction for attendees, however, the church recommends that only those ages middle school and up attend. Childcare is also available for an additional $5 per family.
All funding raised at this event will be used to help send women on a mission trip at a later date. For more information, or to reserve your spot, contact Candi Newton by email at clnewton16@ gmail.com, or visit the First Baptist Church of Vidalia website.
