The Vidalia Recreation Department 8u Boys Gold All-Star team battled through seven games in the GRPA State Tournament last week in Effingham County to bring home the Championship. vs. Savannah

Up first for VRD was the Savannah Mustangs on Tuesday of last week. VRD rolled to an easy win in the game. Vidalia scored 9 runs in the first inning and then added three more in the second to lead, 12-0. Vidalia closed out the game by the run rule in the third inning with five more runs to take the win, 17-0. vs. Wayne County

Up next was Wayne County for Vidalia on Wednesday, and in this game VRD couldn't get their bats going as they fell in five innings. Wayne took the early lead with five runs in the bottom of the first inning, and they never looked back. Wayne scored four more in the second and one in the third to take a 10-0 lead over Vidalia.

Vidalia finally got on the board in the top of the fourth inning with three runs, but Wayne closed out the game in the fifth with two more to take the win, 12-2. vs. Coffee County

That loss sent VRD into the losers' bracket where they had to fight their way back. VRD played two more games on Wednesday and then three more on Thursday on the way to the title.

Against Coffee, VRD plated a run in the top of the first inning, and then added three more in the third to take a 4-0 lead. VRD scored four more in the fourth and then 8u

one in the fifth on the way to a 9-0 win to keep their run alive. vs. Emanuel County

Next on the list for Vidalia was Emanuel County, and the VRD boys rolled to an easy win. Vidalia jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning, and were on top 12-1 by the end of the second.

Vidalia put four more on the board in the third inning to take the game by the run rule, 16-1. vs. Colquitt County

That moved VRD into the semifinals of the losers' bracket to take on Moultrie for a shot at a rematch with Wayne County.

There was never any question in this game as Vidalia broke the game open in the first inning with 13 runs. They went through the lineup as they made sure they were going to get their rematch.

Vidalia added three more in the second as they won the game 16-0 to advance to the Championship. 8u

vs. Wayne County Championship Game 1 Vidalia got on the board first with two runs in the top of the first inning, but Wayne answered with a run in the bottom of the frame to close it to 2-1. Vidalia looked to take control in the top of the second inning as they scored six more runs to take a 7-1 lead over Wayne.

But in the fourth inning, Wayne plated seven runs to take an 8-7 lead over Vidalia. Vidalia tied the game in the top of the fifth inning at 8-8, but Wayne answered with a run in the bottom half to lead the game 9-8.

VRD came back in the top of the sixth inning with four runs as they took a 13-9 lead. Vidalia held in the bottom of the sixth to take the win, 13-9, and force a Game 2. vs. Wayne County Championship Game 2 This game was decided in the first inning. With an inside-the-park grand slam by Vidalia and several other hits, they blew the game open with 15 runs in the inning. Wayne did plate three runs in the bottom of the first, but one more from Vidalia in the top of the second made the score 16-3.

Wayne did not give up, as they managed to pick up three runs in the second and one more in the fourth, but VRD cruised to the 16-7 victory.

With the win the VRD 8u boys are the GRPA State Champions.The All Star team finished the season with a combined record of 33-4-1.
