Man Killed on U. S. Hwy 280 Bridge
A man died early Thursday, August 22, after being struck by a car while walking on the U.S. Highway 280 bridge which crosses the Oconee River and connects Montgomery and Wheeler Counties.
According to the initial investigation, authorities believe that the victim – later identified as Kaleb Joiner, 28, of Uvalda – was walking toward Mount Vernon in the eastbound lane of Hwy 280 after wrecking his vehicle in Wheeler County, near the Ochwalkee store. The vehicle pulled over and called 911 for help, but Joiner died on the scene.
The incident is actively being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol.
