Three Wins For Wheeler Softball

The Wheeler County High School Lady Bulldogs softball team continues to play well as they won 3 of their 4 games last week. The only loss came to Toombs County on Monday. They then won 3 straight over Johnson County, Hawkinsville, and Trinity Christian. Wheeler is now 6-3 on the season and they are 2-1 in Region play. vs. Toombs
Wheeler took the early lead with a run in the bottom of the second inning over the Lady Bulldogs. But 6 runs from Toombs in the top of the fifth inning put them in front, 6-1.
Toombs added 2 more in the sixth inning and then 3 in the seventh to take an 11-1 lead. Wheeler plated one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but they came up short, 11-2. vs. Johnson
On Tuesday in Louisville the game remained scoreless until the top of the fifth inning. Wheeler broke the 0-0 tie with a run on an error by the Lady Trojans. That was followed by an RBI single by Ava Dixon and then another RBI single by Gabby Angel. That gave Wheeler a 3-0 lead.
Wheeler added 2 more runs in the top of the seventh inning on the way to a 5-0 win over Johnson County.
Dixon was also the winning pitcher for the Lady Bulldogs. She gave up just one hit over four innings of work, while striking out 8 batters. vs. Hawkinsville
Wheeler was at the Hawkinsville Lady Red Devils on Thursday and took a big win. Wheeler took the early lead in the top of the second inning. Anna Beth Ethredge hit into a fielder's choice that brought in the first run of the game. Wheeler then loaded up the bases and Shelley Conner came through with a base clearing single to put Wheeler on top 4-0. Angel added a 2-RBI single for a 6-0 lead for the Bulldogs.
The Devils picked up 2 runs in the bottom of the second inning, and then three more in the third as they closed the lead to 6-5.
But Wheeler plated a run in the top of the fourth inning, and then added 3 more in the fifth. Wheeler then scored 4 in the sixth inning on the way to a 14-5 win.
Paisley McCranie got the win in the circle for Wheeler, with Dixon getting the save. vs. Trinity
It was another run away win for the Bulldogs on Saturday at home against Trinity. Trinity scored first with 2 runs to take the early lead. Wheeler answered with Kyleigh Horne driving in 2 runs with a double and Ethredge picking up an RBI to take the 3-2 lead.
Trinity plated 2 more runs in the top of the second inning to go back on top, 4-3, but singles by Dixon and Angel in the bottom of the frame put Wheeler back on top, 5-4. Wheeler didn’t give up that lead as they began to pull away.
Conner drove in a run in the third inning for Wheeler, and then 6 more runs in the fourth for the Bulldogs secured the win. Horne drove in 2 runs with a single, Mackenzie Johnson added a 2-RBI single, Kaleigh Scott drew a basesloaded walk, and then a sacrifice fly from Shiann Carey made it 12-4.
Wheeler held in the top of the fifth inning to take the win by the run rule, 12-4. Dixon was the winning pitcher after coming in to relieve Conner.
This week the Bulldogs faced off with Telfair County on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Wednesday at First Presbyterian Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m., and then on Thursday at home against Robert Toombs Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m.
