The Brewton-Parker College Men’s and Women's Cross Country teams started their season last week at the Stan Sims Opener at Kennesaw State University. The Lady Barons had some new faces and saw all the participants set Personal Record bests today at the event. The women competed in a five-kilometer run. The meet saw the University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State, and Emory University, along with other schools that sent runners, but more was needed for an entire team to qualify.

Women

Coach James Frank said, 'We are happy with our runners each setting PRs today, especially considering that the only returner we have for the women's team this year is Jaleah; everyone else was running their first cross country race ever. We were particularly impressed with Danielle and Amaree and how well they performed.'

RaaShonda Khalil led the Barons with a time of 28:08.95 and was just in front of Danielle Solis, who finished just five seconds behind with a 28:13.49. Amaree Harmon came third for the Barons with a time of 28:20.83. Jaleah Rhett came fourth with a 29:03.99. Aaliyah Allen was the fifth runner for the Barons with a 31:23.78, and Mylan Tanner finished with a 33:34.46. The Lady Barons' finished with an average time of 29:02.21. We cannot wait to see how they build off this start and where it takes them.

Men

The men competed in a four-mile run at the Stan Sims Opener with all of their runners setting PRs on the day.

Coach James Frank added, 'The meet went well, with everyone running a PR. DJ and Eric were particularly impressive. Isaiah was the first freshman running in his first cross-country race. We are excited to build off these personal victories and hope to see some improvement throughout the season.'

DJ Christensen ran a 22:28.62 to complete the race and set a PR. Jacob Hackenberry followed closely behind with a 23:11.52, with Jonah Galli close on his heels, coming in at 23:51.92. The Barons next saw Isaiah Jackson finish with a 24:16.93, and Brandon Williams closed out the top five finishers for the Barons with a 24:32.12. The Barons averaged 23:35.39 for race day, and we look forward to seeing them build off this momentum.

The Barons' next opportunity to race will be September 21 at the Julius Johnson Invitational in Macon, Ga.
