In a dazzling display of pitching, Shay Stringer led the Toombs County High School Lady Dawgs softball team to a commanding 4-0 victory over the Swainsboro Lady Tigers on Thursday of last week. Stringer’s performance was nothing short of spectacular, as she fanned an impressive 19 batters in a complete game shutout.

The senior ace was in complete control throughout the contest, allowing just a single hit over seven innings while issuing no walks. Her pinpoint accuracy and devastating array of pitches left the Lady Tigers’ batters swinging at air for most of the evening.

The Lady Dawgs wasted no time in giving their pitcher some run support. In the bottom of the first inning, they capitalized on a wild pitch to plate the game’s opening run, setting the stage for what was to come.

Toombs County’s offense came alive in the third inning. Aniston Powell, showcasing her power, ripped a double that brought home a run. Not to be outdone, Casey Cantwell followed up with a clutch single, driving in another run and extending the Lady Dawgs’ lead to 3-0.

Powell led the offensive charge for Toombs County, going 2-for-3 at the plate. The dynamic duo of Cantwell and Brinley Miller joined Powell in the RBI column, each driving in one run to contribute to the team’s success.

With this victory, the Toombs County Lady Dawgs continue to build momentum as they head into their next challenge. They’ll hit the road on Monday to face the East Laurens High Lady Falcons, looking to carry forward the energy from this impressive shutout win.

As the season progresses, the Lady Dawgs are proving themselves to be a force to be reckoned with, combining stellar pitching with clutch hitting. If Thursday’s game is any indication, Toombs County softball fans have plenty to look forward to in the coming weeks. The Lady Dawgs move to 10-2 on the year and are 6-0 in region play.

This week they took on East Laurens on Monday after press time. They will be back in action on Wednesday as they travel to St. Vincent’s at 6:00 p.m. and then are at rival Vidalia on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
