Two Losses For BPC Soccer

The Brewton-Parker College men's soccer team fell in two matches last week as they took on the Eagles of Faulkner University and the Skyhawks of Point University. vs. Faulkner
The Barons Men's Soccer started their conference play yesterday on the road against the Faulkner Eagles. Despite the positive momentum of their first win, the Eagles proved too much for the Barons, winning in a decisive five-nil fashion. The Barons did what they could but were outmatched, giving up three goals in the first half and two in the second.
Coach Bob Neuman shared his thoughts on a tough opponent, 'It's not the way you hope to open conference play. But Faulkner is a good side, and we let them get comfortable in the game. If we're going to be successful in this conference campaign, we're going to need to be significantly more disciplined in our approach during matches. Point on Saturday gives us an opportunity to get the ball rolling.'
The Barons got down early, conceding the first goal in the second minute. The Barons did their best to recover and held the Eagles off for 24 minutes before conceding the second goal of the night. The Eagles scored eight minutes later to take a commanding three-nil lead, and the Barons were stuck chasing from the jump. The Eagles had ten shots to the Barons' four in the first half. The Barons had four saves and two corner kicks. Despite the Eagles leading in fouls ten to three, it wasn't enough to gain momentum for the Barons.
In the second half, the Barons gave up the fourth goal in the 66th minute and the final goal in the 86th minute. The only yellow card of the match was given out in the 59th minute to a Faulkner player. The Barons got six shots with four on net in the second half, creating pressure, but were unable to get any by the Eagles keeper.
The Barons trailed in shots 17-10. The Barons trailed in corner kicks six to two. The Eagles led in fouls 18-6. Both keepers finished with four saves. The Eagles had the only yellow card. vs. Point
The Barons Men's Soccer continued their conference campaign, hoping to win their first conference match. The Point University Skyhawks gave them everything they could handle and overpowered the Barons' defense, scoring four goals to defeat the Barons.
Coach Bob Neuman said, 'We're not playing our best soccer at the minute. Our transition isn't quick enough, and we're not penetrating against teams like we did at the beginning of the year. As we get into next week, we will have to get back to what we do well if we're going to find some success.
The Barons conceded a goal in the 18th minute to give the Skyhawks a one-goal lead. After falling behind, the Barons managed to hold the Skyhawks, limiting their chances and keeping a clean frame for the rest of the first half. The Barons were put on their heels in the first half, giving up 16 shot attempts and seeing Gerardo Galicia make three saves in the first half. The Barons struggled to keep up with the Skyhawks.
In the second half, the Barons managed to keep the Skyhawks at bay until the 56th minute, when the deficit went to two. Five minutes later, the Skyhawks struck again, taking the lead to three. The Skyhawks went on to score once more in the 77th minute to seal their scoring on the day. Despite the Skyhawks receiving three cards in the second half, the Barons could not take that momentum and find any great scoring chances.
The Barons trailed in shots 28-3. The Barons trailed in corner kicks seven-three. The Skyhawks led in fouls ten-five. The Barons had the only recorded saves at nine. The Skyhawks received all three yellow cards.
The Barons will look to bounce back on the road against Mobile on September 26.
