The Lady Barons soccer team of Brewton-Parker College faced off with the Faulkner Lady Eagles and the Point University Lady Skyhawks last week. BPC fell in both of those matches. vs. Faulkner
The Lady Barons Soccer team started the conference campaign on the road against the Faulkner Eagles, hoping to get their first win of the season. Sadly, the Eagles had other plans and won the match two-nil. The Lady Barons conceded both goals in the first half and, despite holding them to none in the second, could not get anything past the Eagles' defense.
Coach Phillip Borde said, 'First, I just want to thank God for the opportunity to be around the sport of soccer. The match was hard-fought by Faulkner. They worked extremely hard off the ball to work their way into the game. Tactically, they executed what was being asked of them to the best of their ability. We fell short in a few key areas that will hurt you in the game of soccer. Some bright spots were that some players got some minutes for the first time and impressed the coaching staff. I will be going back to the drawing board and see where I can be better for the team. As always, we will regroup and get up for the next match.'
The Lady Barons gave up the first goal in the 17th minute and the second just 40 seconds before the half ended. They were outshot 15-2 in the first half and outmatched. The Lady Barons had four saves in the first half. The Eagles had all the offense, with three corner kicks to the Lady Barons' zero.
The second half saw the Eagles continue their domination with another ten shots, forcing the Lady Barons to make seven saves. The Eagles led in every category except saves, as the Lady Barons only managed to get three shots on goal. The Lady Barons were on their heels and forced into playing defense. They could not stop the Eagles but managed to hold them to keep the deficit at two.
The Eagles led in shots 25-5. Corner kicks were six to one for the Eagles. The Lady Barons led in saves seven to three. The Eagles led in fouls 11-6. vs. Point
The Lady Barons Soccer team traveled to Point University to continue their conference campaign and were handed a tough fivenil loss. The Skyhawks wasted no time capitalizing on their scoring chances in the 7th minute of the match to take the one-nil lead and followed it up almost five minutes later to score again, adding to their lead.
The Skyhawks started the second half scoring in the 58th minute, then added another in the 60th minute, and just one minute and eighteen seconds later, added their fifth goal. Angel Camacho made nine saves on the day before Coach Borde decided to pull her after giving up the fifth goal. Zoey Elliot came in relief, put up 20 minutes of no goals, and stopped the only shot on goal she faced.
Coach Borde stated, 'I give God thanks for the opportunity as always. The performance was good in bits and pieces of the match but not for the entire 90 minutes. Our youth today showed some decisionmaking skills in key areas of the field. This is a game where the team with the least mistakes has a better chance of winning. Sadly, we were not that team today. We will continue strengthening the areas that must be built upon and the positive pieces we saw today for a more consistent performance.'
The Lady Barons gave up 12 shots in the first half, and the Skyhawks took three corner kicks. This led to their two first-half goals early in the first half. Both teams played a clean match with few fouls in the first half, with the Lady Barons taking just one and the Skyhawks taking two. The Lady Barons did have two shots on goal in the first half but could not get anything by the Point keeper. Angel Camacho made six saves in the first half.
The second half saw the Skyhawks continue scoring fast and quickly back-to-back to complete their five-goal lead.
