TCHS Volleyball Into State Playoffs
The Toombs County High School Lady Bulldogs volleyball team had a strong night on Monday of last week, starting with a hard-fought win over Brantley County that secured their spot in the State Tournament. Despite a slow start in each set, the Lady NetDawgs battled back, showing resilience and determination to take the match in three sets (25-22, 25-23, 25- 19).
In the next round of the Area Tournament, the Bulldogs took on top ranked Savannah Christian. Toombs lost that match and went into the consolation bracket. They then dropped their match to Savannah Country Day as they now will enter the State Tournament with a record of 1114. vs. Brantley
In the first two sets, the Lady NetDawgs found themselves trailing by as many as 7 points but rallied behind strong serving performances from Elida Cruz and Emma Wright to come out on top. The third set was a back-and-forth contest until the teams were tied at 16, but the Lady NetDawgs closed with a 9-3 run to seal the victory.
Emma Wright had 15 service points, 3 aces, and 13 assists. Elida Cruz had 14 service points and 5 aces. Gracie Petersen had 5 service points, 1 ace, and 4 digs. Arianna Hill added 13 kills and 4 digs. Alivia Patrick had 8 kills. Makayla Brewton had 3 blocks, 3 kills, and 6 digs. Madison Brown had 4 blocks, 1 kill, and 3 digs.
With the win, the Lady NetDawgs earned a spot in the State Tournament and advanced to the final four of the Area Tournament. vs. Savannah Christian
However, in the next match against the topseeded Savannah Christian on Tuesday, the Lady NetDawgs struggled to find their rhythm. Savannah Christian played like the No. 1 seed and handed Toombs County a straight-set loss (25-12, 25-12, 25-10).
Elida Cruz had 6 service points and 2 aces. Makayla Brewton had 5 digs. Arianna Hill and Alivia Patrick added 2 kills each. vs. Country Day
Toombs was swept by the Lady Hornets as they finished with fourth place in the Area heading into the State Tournament.
TCHS dropped the first set 25-10, lost the second 25-11, and fell in the third set 25-14.
This Wednesday the Bulldogs will take on ACE Charter in Macon.
