Heritage Over Crisp
The Eagles football team of Vidalia Heritage Academy traveled to Cordele last Friday night to take on the Wildcats of Crisp Academy. It was a tough fought game with VHA pulling out the Region victory.
VHA held the lead by the end of the first quarter with two touchdowns and were on top 14-6 over the Wildcats. Early in the second quarter, though, Crisp connected on a pass for a touchdown to close that lead to 14-12. They failed on the two-point conversion.
VHA added a score on a touchdown run by Dylan Green with three minutes left in the first half to increase their lead to 20-12. They were not able to get the two-point try.
In the third quarter, Crisp again closed in on the Eagles as they scored a rushing touchdown with just two minutes to play in the third quarter. Again, they could not punch in the twopoint conversion, but the score was now 20-18.
Just one minute into the fourth quarter, the Eagles added a touchdown on a run by Trevor White, but they could not get the twopoint conversion across as they led 26-18.
With six minutes left in the game, the Wildcats again pulled to within two points, but they could not get the tying two-point conversion, as they trailed 26-24.
With just four minutes to play, the Eagles scored one more time on a run by Jake Adams as they took a 32-24 lead. The VHA defense held on over the remainder of the game to take the win by that score.
The Eagles are now 3-2 on the season and they are 3-2 in Region play. With the damage that Heritage has suffered to their football field due to Hurricane Helene, they will play the rest of their home games at Montgomery County High School’s field in Mt. Vernon. This week they will play their only nonregion game of the season as they travel to Savannah to take on the Matadors of Memorial Day at 7:30 p.m. They will play the next two weeks at MCHS’s Brogdon Field as they host Fullington Academy and Westwood.
