Indians Drop 2 To Tigers


The Vidalia High School Indian baseball team played a three-game series against the Tigers of Swainsboro last week. VHS took the win in the first game on Monday, but dropped the next two games on Tuesday and Thursday. VHS is now 8-10 on the season and they are 2-4 in Region play.
Game 1
In the first game of the series, the game was scoreless through the first two innings, and then the Tigers put a run on the board in the bottom of the third to take the lead. Swainsboro added another run in the fourth inning to hold a 2-0 lead.
VHS came through with five runs in the top of the fifth inning, with the biggest hit coming from Cayden Nance with a two-run single. That put the Indians on top, 5-2. VHS added one more run in the sixth inning to take a 6-2 lead. Swainsboro did manage to get a run in the seventh, but that was all as the Indians won the game, 6-3.
Game 2
In the second game of the series, Swainsboro took the early lead with four runs in the top of the first inning. But the Indians answered in the bottom half of the frame. VHS had closed the lead to 4-3, and then an RBI single from Jackson Berry tied the game at 4-4.
VHS took the lead in the bottom of the second inning on a two-run home run from Nance to take a 6-4 lead. But that was all the Indians scored in the game.
Swainsboro added a run in the top of the fourth inning, and then in the fifth they plated four more runs as they took a 9-6 lead over VHS. Swainsboro kept the Indians off the board over the final three innings to take the win, 9-6, over VHS.
Game 3
The final game of the series was a close, one-run, game. Swainsboro loaded up the bases in the bottom of the first inning and scored two runs to take the early lead. Swainsboro added another run in the fourth inning to extend their lead to 3-0.
In the top of the fifth inning VHS finally got on the board, and then in the sixth a three-run double from Clay Mimbs put the Indians on top, 4-3. But in the bottom of the sixth, a two-run home run from the Tigers put them back on top, 5-4.
Swainsboro held in the top of the seventh inning to take the win, 5-4.
This week the Indians will play a nonregion schedule. They faced off with Appling County on Tuesday after presstime. They will be in Baxley on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. for another game against the Pirates. They will close out the week on Thursday at home against Jeff Davis at 5:45 p.m.
