Telfair Over Wheeler Co.

It was a tough loss for the Bulldogs of Wheeler County High School last Friday night as they hosted the Trojans of Telfair County. But Alvin Ricks added another 121 yards rushing to his total and is now the #3 rusher in the state across all classifications with 1,422 yards. He is behind only Bryian Duncan of Cairo with 1,440 yards, and Zayden Cook of Chattooga with 1,959 yards.

Early in the game, the Bulldogs held an 8-6 lead over the Trojans, but with just two minutes left in the first quarter Telfair found the end zone on a short pass to take a 12-8 lead. They tacked on the two-point conversion for a 14-8 lead.

Wheeler tied the game on a run by Ricks, and then they added the two-point conversion to take a 16-14 lead over Telfair with two minutes left in the first half.

Just before the end of the first half, the Trojans found the end zone again, this time on a 40yard pass. They were successful on the twopoint try to take a 22-16 lead into halftime.

With five minutes left in the third quarter, the Trojans scored on a long run to push their lead to 30-16 after the two-point conversion. They added another touchdown just a few minutes later, on another pass completion. That gave them a 36-16 lead over Wheeler.

Telfair increased that lead to 42-16 just before the end of the third quarter. Wheeler did threaten to score early in the fourth quarter, but a turnover at the Telfair 8-yard line ended their threat.

Telfair scored one more time in the game with seven minutes remaining on the way to a 50-16 win over the Bulldogs.

This week Wheeler will host Wilcox County on Friday with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. in Alamo.
