Lady Vikings Split With Red Devils Lady Vikings Split With Red Devils

The Treutlen County High School Lady Vikings softball team played two games against the Lady Red Devils of Hawkinsville last week and split those games. Treutlen dropped the first game in a close, one-run battle on Tuesday, but bounced back on Wednesday at home with an extra innings win over the Red Devils in eight innings.

Game 1

On Tuesday of last week in Hawkinsville, the Vikings lost a heartbreaker to the Red Devils. In the top of the first inning the Vikings loaded up the bases and threatened to take a big lead, but they were just able to score one run that came on a walk by Jayden Rogers.

Hawkinsville tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning, and they took the lead in the third inning with two more runs to go on top, 3-1. Hawkinsville added one more run in the fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead over the Vikings, but the game took a turn in the top of the fifth inning.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Vikings plated six runs, with Karlee Aligood driving in three of those with a bases loaded single. That put Treutlen on top 7-4. But Hawkinsv ille addedarun in the bottom of the fifth to close the lead to 7-5.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Devils had closed the lead to 7-6, and then came through with a two-run double to take the lead and the win, 8-7 over the Vikings.

Game 2

On Wednesday in Soperton, the Vikings the lead went back and forth before the game was finally decided in extra innings.

Hawkinsville jumped out with four runs in the top of the first inning thanks to three errors by the Vikings. But in the bottom of the second inning, Treutlen came back with seven runs to jump out into the lead, 7-4. Hawkinsville added a run in the third inning and then two more in the fourth to tie the game at 7-7.

The Vikings plated a run in the bottom of the fourth to take an 8-7 lead, but in the top of the sixth the Devils tied the game at 8-8. Hawkinsville jumped out in front in the top of the seventh inning with two more runs and appeared they may take the win, but the Vikings came back with two more runs in the bottom of the frame, off a hit by Kenley Kight, to tie the game at 10-10 and send it to extra innings.

The Vikings held in the top of the eighth inning, and with runners on base in the bottom of the inning, Taylor Gillis came through with a big single to give the Vikings the win, 11-10.

Treutlen is now 2-8 overall and they are 2-5 in Region play. This week Treutlen was at Telfair County on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Wednesday at Montgomery County at 5:30 p.m.
