On Friday night, the No. 1 ranked Toombs County High School Bulldogs closed out their regular season with a commanding 44-8 win over the Swainsboro Tigers at The Pit. Mixing a potent run game with a sharp passing attack, the Bulldogs kept the Tigers off balance from the outset.
Toombs County wasted no time, taking the opening kickoff and marching 65 yards on a nine-play drive, capped by a 4-yard touchdown run from Justin Powell. Kicker Alex Otero added the extra point, giving the Bulldogs an early 7-0 lead.
The Red Bullet defense made their presence felt on Swainsboro’s first possession, holding them to a quick threeand- out. After a mishandled snap by the Tigers, Toombs took over at the Swainsboro 15-yard line. One play later, senior quarterback TJ Stanley connected with senior wide receiver LaGonza Heyward for a 15-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 14-0 with 6:04 remaining in the first quarter.
The defensive pressure continued on Swainsboro’s next possession, where another high snap forced the Tigers’ punter to kick the ball out of the end zone, resulting in a safety and making the score 16-0. Following the safety, Toombs received the ball back, and Stanley wasted no time, connecting with junior wideout Gavin Fletcher on a 40yard touchdown pass to push the Bulldogs’ lead to 23-0 with 4:14 left in the first quarter.
The Bulldogs kept up the momentum in the second quarter, with Donterrius Mincey and Powell each adding rushing touchdowns, sending the Bull- continued from page

With a running clock in the second half due to the mercy rule, Powell broke loose for another 31-yard touchdown, sealing a 44-8 victory. Toombs finished their regular season with an impressive 8-1 record.
Heading into the GHSA State Playoffs, the Bulldogs enter as the #6 seeded team due to the loss to Savannah Christian.
The Bulldogs will now host #27 seeded Southwest Macon in the first round of the playoffs at The Pit on Friday at 7:30 p.m. In last season’s first-round matchup, Toombs County defeated Southwest Macon 64-6, setting a school record for points in a single game.
