The Toombs County High School softball team secured the Region Championship last week as they picked up two more Region wins. They started the week with a nonregion win against Thomson on Monday, then won Region games over Vidalia on Tuesday and Savannah Christian on Thursday. They are now 15-2 on the year, and they are 9-0 in Region action. vs. Thomson

The Toombs County Lady Dawgs secured a 4-2 win over the Thomson Bulldogs on Monday, capitalizing on early opportunities and strong pitching to take the victory.

Thomson error and a walk to Nora Grace Mercer. Aniston Powell’s well-placed line out brought in another run, giving Toombs County an early lead.

Casey Cantwell earned the win on the mound, delivering a solid performance. Cantwell allowed four hits and two runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out seven while walking three. Shay Stringer came in to close out the game, earning the save and preserving the Bulldogs’ lead.

Taylor Bland, hitting in the eighth spot for Toombs County, led the team with two hits in three at-bats. Aniston Powell contributed an RBI, helping to maintain the Bulldogs’ offensive edge. The team collected seven hits overall, with most of the scoring capitalizing on defensive mistakes by Thomson. vs. Vidalia

Shay Stringer delivered a dominant performance in the circle on Tuesday with another no hitter, striking out 13 batters and leading the Toombs County Lady Dawgs to a 9-0 victory over Region rival Vidalia Indians. Stringer was untouchable, allowing no hits or runs over seven innings while walking four.

Cyleigh Ennis had a huge day at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4, including a solo home run to right field in the seventh inning. She also singled in the first, second, and fifth innings, driving in three runs for the Lady Dawgs.

Toombs County got on the board early in the first inning, thanks to an RBI single from Ennis and a Vidalia error, bringing in two runs. The Lady Dawgs extended their lead in the second inning when Emerson Powell hit a solo home run to left field, making it 3-0.

The offensive surge continued in the seventh inning with three more runs. Ennis kicked things off with her homerun, a solo shot to right field. Stringer followed with a double, driving in another run, and a fielder’s choice by Powell brought home the final run to seal the 9-0 win.

Toombs County collected 10 hits in the game, with Ennis and Stringer leading the way, each driving in three runs. Brinley Miller also contributed with two hits in four atbats. vs. Savannah

In a tightly contested game on Thursday, the Toombs County Lady Dawgs pulled out a 3-1 victory over the Savannah Christian Raiders, with both teams displaying strong pitching performances. Shay Stringer led the charge for Toombs County, recording all 21 outs with a dominant outing in the circle.

The game remained tied at one until the top of the seventh inning when Taylor Bland came through in the clutch. Bland launched a two-run homer to left field, giving the Lady Dawgs the lead and securing the win.

Savannah Christian got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning when Jillian Austin’s RBI single brought home the game’s opening run. However, Toombs County responded in the top of the fourth inning when Natalie Quintero singled after a 6-pitch at-bat, tying the game at 1-1.

Stringer was outstanding for Toombs County, allowing just one run on six hits over seven innings, while striking out 16 and walking two. Savannah Christian’s Austin also pitched well, surrendering nine hits and three runs across seven innings, with four strikeouts and no walks.

Bland led the Lady Dawgs offensively, driving in two runs with her gamechanging home run from the eighth spot in the lineup. Cyleigh Ennis contributed with a solid day at the plate, going 2-for-3 to lead the team in hits.

Toombs hosted Pierce County on Monday of this week and were at Swainsboro on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Wednesday at West Laurens at 6:00
