Wilcox Over Treutlen

It was a tough matchup for the Vikings of Treutlen County High School last Friday night as the football team took on the Patriots of Wilcox County. Treutlen got a score early in the game, but could not keep the offense going as they fell to Wilcox, 36-7.

The Vikings struck first off a 35-yard run by Roderick Fuller with around three minutes left in the first quarter. Treutlen added the extra point to take a 7-0 lead over the Patriots. Sadly that was the only score that the Vikings got in the game. With less than a minute to go in the first, the Patriots found the end zone on an 18-yard pass and then tacked on the two-point conversion to take an 8-7 lead.

In the second quarter of the game, neither team got much going until close to the end of the first half when Wilcox drove the ball down and connected on a 20-yard pass for their second touchdown of the game. They added the extra point to take a 15-7 lead going into halftime.

The Patriots added a touchdown late in the third quarter as they broke an 80-yard run for the score. They added the PAT to take a 22-7 lead.

Wilcox scored two more times in the fourth quarter of the game, the first on a 10-yard pass just a minute into the quarter, and then second on a 35yard pass with eight minutes left in the game. That made the final score 36-7.

Fuller led the Vikings with 116 yards rushing on the night and the lone touchdown. Kylan Page threw for 61 yards on four completions, all of which went to Jordan Coney.

The Vikings will have this week off before taking on Telfair County on October 4, at 7:30 p.m.
