The Brewton-Parker College Barons men's basketball team played two games last week as they faced off with Paine College and Point University. It was a good week for the Barson as they won both games, including their first conference game of the year. vs. Paine

The Brewton-Parker Barons triumphed over the Paine College Lions in a gripping non-conference basketball game on November 12, 2024. Despite a tense second half, the Barons managed to clinch a 75-68 victory in Mount Vernon.

From the onset, the Barons dominated the court with a commanding lead, peaking at 30 points during the first half, and concluding the half with a dominating score of 43-17. However, the Lions surged back in the second half, tightening the gap. Brewton-Parker's top scorers, Dre Burroughs, with 14 points, and Bobby Blackwell III, with contributions of 12 points, 8 rebounds, a steal, and a block, played pivotal roles in securing the win. Other notable performances included Sam Faraday- Bensley and Ferlin Joseph Jr., who contributed significantly across the board.

Coach Leonard Epps said, 'I'll never be upset with the win on the scoreboard, but we've gotta put together two halves of basketball. Anytime you turn the ball over 21 times in a game there's plenty of room for improvement. It's not all bad. We played really well in the first half and there's a lot of good things to take away from that but again we have to learn how to put together two halves of basketball before we say that we're complete team. All in all I'm happy with the win and looking forward to start off conference on Thursday,' Coach Epps commented after the game. vs. Point

The Brewton-Parker Barons hosted the Point University Skyhawks on Thursday to begin conference play for their season and took the victory 70-65 to move to 4-2, and 1-0 for the season. The Barons managed to come back from starting the game down four points before taking the lead with just under 16 minutes left in the first half. The Barons grabbed the lead at 1918 with seven and a half minutes left and led for the rest of the game.

The Barons were led once again by the dominating scoring of Dre Burroughs with 28 points, seven rebounds, and three assists and a steal. The Barons were also aided by strong performances from Zslot Boros, who dropped 15 points, grabbed five boards, and four assists, with a steal. Grant Sanders contributed 10 points and nine boards to the team's victory.

At halftime, the Barons had the lead and continued to hold off Point's offense to take their first conference win.

The Barons are set to host Dalton State Thursday, November 21, before going on a two-game road trip to Keiser University on November 26, and Florida National University on November 27. The Barons look to carry their momentum and hard fought wins into the rest of the season.
